Two men were killed in a fire in Henry County this morning.

The fire broke out around nine, at a house on Fairystone Highway in the
Bassett section of the county.
Heavy smoke was coming from the building when firefighters arrived.
Officials found two men inside the house and tried to revive them, but both
died.
The victims were 68-year-old James Privette, the owner of the house; and a
friend, 40-year-old Banks Tunstall.
Authorities believe the cause of the fire was careless smoking.

The region with the slowest growth rate in Virginia is Danville-Pittsylvania
County.
New figures from the U.S. Census Bureau show the area grew just a half
percent in the last six years.
The metropolitan area that grew the fastest was Charlottesville.
The Roanoke region showed a modest increase.

Our own Steve Mason, who came down with pneumonia in Jacksonville earlier
this week is doing better and may be out of the hospital later tonight.
His bed at Baptist Medical Center may soon be occupied by the Hokies, who
could use a little treatment after losing to North Carolina 42 to 3 today in
the Gator Bowl.

The Hokies came into ALLTEL stadium as huge double digit underdogs to the
once beaten Tarheels.
And it didn't take North Carolina long to prove why it deserved to be in the
favorites' role.
After a field goal put them up 3-to-nothing, Chris Keldorf used a super play
fake to freeze the defense and hit a wide open Octavus Barnes on a 62 yard
scoring strike. It's 10-to-nothing with 6:07 left in the first quarter.
And it got worse. Jimmy Kibble, who had never had a punt blocked in his Tech
career is smothered by the Heels.
Dre Bly, the All-American scoops up the ball and scores and it's
16-to-nothing after a quarter.
Tech would self-destruct again as the offensive line breaks down and the
Heels break up the handoff at the goal line. Greg Ellis recovers the ball in
the endzone. Carolina leads it 22-to-nothing at halftime.
Nick Sorensen came in at quarterback in the second half, and although he
provided few point he did give the Hokies' offense a spark leading them a field
goal. He also earned Tech's MVP honors for the game.
But this one was all Carolina Keldorf rips the Tech secondary for 290 yards
and three TDs as the Tarheels win it 42-to-3.

Georgia just dominated Wisconsin as Robert Edwards ran for 110 yards and
scored three touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs to a 33-to-6 rout.
Quarterback Mike Bobo threw for 235 SUPER=36-Georgia/33/Wisconsin/6;
yards and head coach Jim Donnan got a Gatorade shower as the 12th ranked Dawgs
win it by 27.

East of Tampa, in Orlando, the Florida Gators, last year's national champs,
put a hurting on Penn State in the Citrus Bowl.
Former quarterback turned receiver Jacques Green led the Gators to a
21 to 6 win with a couple of acrobatic touchdown receptions.
Steve Spurrier's team finishes the year with a 10-and-2 record while Penn
State ends up 9-and-3.
