Tax cuts...that's what Virginia is looking for.
The National Conference of State Legislatures says Virginia is among about a dozen states looking at possible major cuts this year.
Outgoing Governor George Allen has included 260 million dollars in his proposed budget to start Governor-elect Jim Gilmore's plan to eliminate most local car taxes.
Even so, Allen's budget has significant hikes in spending, including 874 million new dollars for public schools.

Transfer money to lower-income family members, like your children, giving them bonds or insurance policies -- Kids have much lower tax rates.
Also, Duerk recommends you buy municipal bonds, because there's no federal tax taken out.
And if you buy savings bonds or Treasury bills that mature in the future, you can defer taxes you'd normally pay next year.

He's a sports fanatic... mostly as a spectator, his mom says.

It was all Governor George Allen's idea.
He thought it would be nice to spend January celebrating Southwest Virginia's economic virtues.
So the Governor hung a banner on the capital building Tuesday.
He even went up in a crane and signed it, urging folks to come on down to our part of the Commonwealth for a visit.
But we can only hope there wasn't too much symbolism in Tuesday's ceremony.
Minutes after the Governor declared Southwest Virginia Open for Business, workers went up in the same crane and ripped down the banner.
