Senay standup: When it come to vitamins, there seems to be two extremes...those who can't get enough...and those who believe that taking vitamin supplements have little, if any, value.

Dr. Victor Herbert is an expert on vitamins.
Senay: Vitamins have never been hotter. I think more people are taking vitamins than ever before. Should we all be talking a multi-vitamin everyday?
Dr. Herbert: No. All it does is give us expensive urine. For most people, no vitamin supplement are necessary.

But even Dr. Herbert believes there are exceptions -- such as pregnant women needing folic acid supplements. And for many people, getting all the vitamins we need from food is not always possible. Nutritionist Barbara Levine says taking a multivitamin can be a form of "health insurance."

SOT: Levine: Many people, particularly women, that are trying to maintain

their weights at very low levels of calories need to take a multi-vitamin, despite the fact that they try and have a good diet, they often cannot get all the recommended dietary allowances for the vitamins and minerals they need.

The bottom line for vitamin takers -- always let your doctor know what you are taking and how much -- some vitamins can be toxic...and can interfere with over-the-counter and prescription medications.

That's a drop of one percent since the 19-90 census.
During that same period, Botetourt County has reached a population of almost 28- thousand, an increase of 11 percent.

Burger King is planning to give away millions of free servings of its new french fries today.
The 70 million dollar promotion is aimed at taking a bite out of rival McDonald's dominance in the greasy finger-food market. A spokeswoman says sales figures still show their fried spuds are number one. McDonald's says it isn't worried.
