People in Maysville Kentucky were forced out of their homes by an early
morning fire at a fertilizer factory.
The fire at the Cargill Company plant started about 2:30 this morning.
Emergency workers evacuated about 25-hundred people who live nearby.
The plant has stockpiles of herbicides and pesticides, along with 420 tons
of ammonium nitrate, one of the chemicals used in the bomb that blew up the
Oklahoma City federal building.

Firefighters are letting the fire burn itself out. They're afraid putting
water on it will spread toxic vapor over populated areas.
Rain in California caused more than 200 accidents in the Los Angeles area
Including this one, where 14 tractor trailers collided in a chain reaction
Police say it started when an 18-wheeler came out of a tunnel and hit a

The first day of the year was also the first day on the job for George
McMillan--the new sheriff of Roanoke.
McMillan has worked for the sheriff's department for 24 years, and has
served as chief deputy for 15.
He was elected in November after longtime sheriff Alvin Hudson decided not
to seek another term.

For the second time in two weeks, a squirrel knocked out power to thousands
of Roanoke County residents.
The day after Christmas, a squirrel got into a transformer at a power
..knocking out nearly six-thousand American Electric Power users.
Earlier today, about four-thousand residents in the same area were without
power for about a half-hour for the same reason.

Roanoke Civic Center attracted hundreds of civil war enthusiasts and hunters
today at the Roanoke Valley Gun Show.
The quarterly event has been around for 27-years and is believed to be the
civic center's very first show.

Flights were delayed up to three hours as HEAVY fog blanketed much of

Both coaches looked a little tight before the start of today's game and the

Denver scored the first points of the game in the second quarter when Davis

It appears that the Buffalo Bills will go within the organization to name a
new head coach to replace Marv Levy.
Reports in Buffalo today say Wade Phillips accepted the job yesterday during
a phone conversation with owner Ralph Wilson.
Phillips has been the Bills Defensive coordinator the past three seasons.
He was a head coach at Denver during the 1993-94 season and left with a 16
and 17 record.
Wilson has called a news conference for tomorrow but he will not say what
for. However, He did not deny Phillips would be Buffalo's new head coach.
Though the weather is cooperating-- construction may wreck havoc with your
commute this week.

((New construction projects are at a standstill, but there are old ones
still in progress that may slow you down.
In Buchanan County traffic may be moving slowly tomorrow along Route 4-60 as
crews work to widen the lanes there.
And, the same is true for Route 58 in Grayson County. The speed limit is
reduced to 45 miles per hour and work crews will be directing traffic.
Though it isn't likely that snow will slow down your commute, state police
warn there may be a "thawing effect"--where streams of water from melted snow
freeze overnight becoming icy patches in the morning.

Sea World rescue teams tried to save five Pilot Whales that came ashore on
the Florida Space Coast today--
