Recently, the problem has occurred more often. The day after Christmas,
about six-thousand South Roanoke County residents lost power for the same

McMann says overall, animals are not a big problem, for every one that
causes trouble, a thousand go along without disturbing anything.

The city of Roanoke welcomed a new sheriff on New Year's Day, but George
McMillan is no stranger to the job.
McMillan has worked for the sheriff's department for 24 years, and has
served as chief deputy for 15.
He was elected in November after longtime sheriff Alvin Hudson decided not
to seek another term.

But some of the 760-employees forced to take a two-week vacation are worried

Hundreds of hunters and civil war enthusiasts filed into the Roanoke Civic
Center today for the Roanoke Valley Gun Show.
The quarterly event has been around for 27-years and is believed to be the
civic center's very first show.

Unlike last Monday, snow likely won't delay your commute into work tomorrow
but there's always construction.
Here's Stacey Martin with this week's edition of Road Report.

((New construction projects are at a standstill, but there are old ones
still in progress that may slow you down.
In Buchanan County traffic may be moving slowly tomorrow along Route 4-60 as
crews work to widen the lanes there.
And, the same is true for Route 58 in Grayson County. The speed limit is
reduced to 45 miles per hour and work crews will be directing traffic.
Though it isn't likely that snow will slow down your commute, state police
warn there may be a "thawing effect"--where streams of water from melted snow
freeze overnight becoming icy patches in the morning.

Dorsey Levens rushed for a team playoff record of 112 yards and a touchdown

The Packer fans braved the cold weather to cheer for their team at Lambeau
Green Bay got on the board in the first quarter Brett Favre throws the 3
yard touchdown pass to tight end Mark Chumra to make it 7 to nothing Pack with

The packer defense was all over Tampa Bay quarterback Trent Difler on this
play Tyrone Williams intercepts the pass and returns it to the Tampa 27 setting
up a field goal.
Tampa prevented the shutout in the second half when Mike Alstott takes the
handoff and scores from six yards out to make the score 13 to 7 in the third
Green Bay comes right back capping a drive when Levens takes the handoff

It appears that the Buffalo Bills will go within the organization to name a
new head coach to replace Marv Levy.
Reports in Buffalo today say Wade Phillips accepted the job yesterday during
a phone conversation with owner Ralph Wilson.
Phillips has been the Bills Defensive coordinator the past three seasons.
He was a head coach at Denver during the 1993-94 season and left with a 16
and 17 record.
Wilson has called a news conference for tomorrow but he will not say what
for. However, He did not deny Phillips would be Buffalo's new head coach.
The Virginia Cavaliers have evened their record in the A-C-C to 1 and 1.
This Afternoon Norman Nolan scored 30 and Curtis Staples 24 as the Cavaliers
beat Wake Forest 73 to 64.

The Cavaliers controlled most of the first quarter as Curtis Staples hits

Dave Odom put in Freshman Robert O'Kelly he hit his first three shots of the
second half this three pointer made it 35 to 34 wake.

Wake's Loren Woods makes the steal and takes it to the hoop for the layup
and the Deacons led 60 to 58 early in the overtime.

Rescue teams from Sea World rushed to Florida's Space Coast today--
in an effort to save five Pilot Whales that got stuck on the beach.
A marine biologist said the leader of the pack was sick and apparently led
them all ashore.
