four year old stepdaughter will have his case heard in the New River Valley.
The trial was moved to Montgomery County because of extreme publicity in far
southwest Virginia.

Kenneth Jessie pleaded NOT guilty to first degree murder and child abuse.
The charges stem from the death of his four year old step-daughter-- Annie
Leftwich.
Authorities say the little girl was beaten, burned, bound and gagged in her
Dickenson County home, last May, possibly as punishment for bedwetting.
It took court officials several hours to seat a jury.

The potential jurors were asked questions such as how many children they
have and their thoughts on parenting.
But most importantly prosecutors and the defense tried to decipher their
feelings on child abuse.

Several potential jurors were actually excused early on-- saying they could
NOT handle such a sensitive issue.
Jessie's wife, Elizabeth, was also in court.
She pleaded guilty to felony child abuse and second degree murder.
Her attorney says she MAY testify against her husband.

street outside her home on Loudon Avenue in Roanoke.

Barnette is being tried in FEDERAL court in North Carolina for that crime
AS WELL AS the murder of a Charlotte man the same day.
Court records indicate Barnette confessed to both offenses.
Prosecutors plan to portray Barnette as a violent man who has been involved
in several crimes. They will ask the jury for a death sentence.
Robin Williams mother, Bertha will tell the jury how she watched in horror
as her daughter was shot to death.

It's now up to a jury to deliberate the sentence.

The Virginia Cavaliers women's team which is ranked ninth in the nation this
week was in Clemson, South Carolina last night playing its first ACC road game
of the new year.

anxious to get it on with UVa.
And after falling behind early, Clemson started asserting itself with the
help of Natasha Anderson. She cuts inside and scores on the jumper.
Anderson then scores off the right block. She finished with 18 points 4
rebounds and 4 assists.
Virginia was down by eight at the half, and despite plays like this one from

upset ninth ranked Virginia last night 74-to-67. The Lady Cavs are now
10-and-2.

Hall taking on Liberty.

an hour.
