The 35- year old Dickenson County man who allegedly tortured and killed his four year old stepdaughter will have his case heard in the New River Valley.
The trial was moved to Montgomery County because of extreme publicity in far southwest Virginia.

Kenneth Jessie pleaded NOT guilty to first degree murder and child abuse.
The charges stem from the death of his four year old step-daughter-- Annie Leftwich.
Authorities say the little girl was beaten, burned, bound and gagged in her Dickenson County home, last May, possibly as punishment for bedwetting.
It took court officials several hours to seat a jury. TAKE SU
The potential jurors were asked questions such as how many children they have and their thoughts on parenting.
But most importantly prosecutors and the defense tried to decipher their feelings on child abuse. END SU
Several potential jurors were actually excused early on-- saying they could NOT handle such a sensitive issue.
Jessie's wife, Elizabeth, was also in court.
She pleaded guilty to felony child abuse and second degree murder.
Her attorney says she MAY testify against her husband.

Barnette is being tried in FEDERAL court in North Carolina for that crime AS WELL AS the murder of a Charlotte man the same day.
Court records indicate Barnette confessed to both offenses.
Prosecutors plan to portray Barnette as a violent man who has been involved in several crimes. They will ask the jury for a death sentence.

But a defense lawyer said Nichols is a concerned and loving family man.
Michael Tigar told jurors the true conspirators are Michael Fortier who after a plea agreement awaits sentencing- and the never caught John Doe number two.
It's now up to a jury to deliberate the sentence.
