Milk carton labels are changing this New Year.
As of January 1st--The Food and Drug Administration is putting restrictions
on products that call themselves low-fat....including two-percent milk.
Low fat is defined as food containing 3 or less grams of fat per serving--
2-percent milk has 5 grams of fat per serving.
Whole milk has 8 grams a cup, 1-percent contains 2-and a half grams and skim
milk has less then half a gram of fat---which makes it fat-free.
Renaming lower-fat dairy products also applies to:
cottage cheese, sweetened condensed skimmed milk, low fat dry milk, evaporated
skimmed milk, acidified low fat and skim milk, cultured low fat and skimmed
milk, sour half and half and acidified sour half and half.
Also ahead in 1998, manufacturers of enriched breads, flours, corn meals,
pastas, rice and other grain products will be required to add nutrient folic
acid--to reduce the risk of neural tube birth defects in newborns.

Doctors took blood samples from 18 men at high risk, who, over time, did not
