A Bedford County grand jury indicted former sheriff's lieutenant John McCane for allegedly mis-using public money.

Just yesterday, a separate stalking charge against McCane was dropped for lack of evidence.
But state police say McCane misused sheriff's department funds during a recent undercover drug investigation.
Special prosecutor Joel Branscom has characterized the amount as being less than one thousand dollars.
The negative publicity from the two criminal investigations led to McCane's resignation from the sheriff's department last week.

It's the second time in two months a local Sara Lee plant has changed hands.

It's part of Sara Lee's strategy to cut its losses.
Sara Lee says all employees at the Galax plant will keep their jobs under the new ownership.

It's mission: search the surface of the moon for water that could one day be used by human settlers.
The unmanned craft should arrive at the moon on Sunday.
Two days later, the probe will slip into a 60-mile-high orbit and begin searching for evidence of frozen water, minerals and gases. The spacecraft eventually will crash-land on the moon.

Nolan scored 79 points and grabbed 32 rebounds in Virginia's 3 games last week.

The UVa women's team faced some off the court adversity yesterday as player Lauren Swierzcek (SWAIR-ZEK) was found guilty of two counts of petty larceny.
Swairzek admitted that she stole clothing from two stores at Fashion Square Mall in Albemarle County.
Head Coach Debbie Ryan testified on her player's behalf as a character witness, but the judge gave her a 30 day suspended term on each count.
Ryan says she hasn't decided if Swierzcek has a future with the team.

He's been called back up to play for the Saint John Flames.

Late Model Stock car drivers from the Mid-Atlantic will be without one of their favorite races this year.
Track officials announced this afternoon that they have cancelled their Spring Late Model event, the Miller 300.

That Late model races always have their share of destruction, but this time the problem is construction.
The track is adding 75 hundred new seats to the front stretch and they won't be finished in time for the March 15th race.
Also, keep in mind that the Fall Taco Bell 300 has also been moved.
The race was originally set for October 18th, but now it will be held on Sunday September 20th, a weekend before the Cup cars and Super Trucks take over the track.

They never attended art school, but a pair of painters in Buffalo New York is finding success in a BIG way.

Sheba and Surapa are two painting (pack-i-derms) pachyderms at the Buffalo zoo.
Zoo keepers taught the elephants to paint to give them something different to do.
The two are only too happy to put brush to canvas.
Their artwork is sold in the zoo's giftshop for $25 dollars.
The proceeds help train handlers.
