The Dickenson County man charged with killing his four year old stepdaughter escaped a first degree murder conviction.
But Kenneth Jessie still faces 50-years in prison.
This afternoon-- the jury found the 35-year old man guilty of child abuse and second degree murder.
Teresa Hamilton reports-- the jury's decision came down after listening to intense closing arguments.

Those were some of the sentiments shared by Kenneth Jessie's attorney as she tried to convince jurors to convict her client ONLY of child abuse-- NOT first degree murder.
To do so--Nancy Dickenson attempted to place the blame on Jessie's wife---

The child, who was severely beaten, suffocated to death last spring, after she was tied to her bed, inside the family's Dickenson County mobile.

The commonwealth concedes the little girl could've gagged to death-- but during closing arguments put a slightly different spin on the story-- one that placed even more of the blame on the child's stepfather.

The jury recommended the maximum 50- year sentence.

She pleaded guilty to second degree murder and child abuse earlier this week.
