Police arrived at the Professional Arts building on Franklin Street- where a
body was found in a deep pit.
For days we've heard the stories of child abuse and murder allegedly at the
hands of this man. Today the jury reaches a verdict in the case of Kenneth
And it's a preview of the Olympics as the top female skaters battle it out
on the ice today. We'll have results.

The Dickenson County man charged with killing his four year old stepdaughter
escaped a first degree murder conviction.
But Kenneth Jessie still faces 50-years in prison.
This afternoon-- the jury found the 35-year old man guilty of child abuse
and second degree murder.
Teresa Hamilton reports-- the jury's decision came down after listening to
intense closing arguments.

Those were some of the sentiments shared by Kenneth Jessie's attorney as she
tried to convince jurors to convict her client ONLY of child abuse-- NOT first
To do so--Nancy Dickenson attempted to place the blame on Jessie's wife---
saying it was Elizabeth who killed four year old Annie by placing a gag inside
The child, who was severely beaten, suffocated to death last spring, after
she was tied to her bed, inside the family's Dickenson County mobile.

The commonwealth concedes the little girl could've gagged to death-- but
during closing arguments put a slightly different spin on the story-- one that
placed even more of the blame on the child's stepfather.
Prosecutors say Kenneth Jessie was the one who tied Annie to her urine soaked
bed in such a way-- the position of her body-- was enough to suffocate her--
even without a gag.
The jury recommended the maximum 50- year sentence.
The same sentence facing Jessie's wife.
She pleaded guilty to second degree murder and child abuse earlier this

Roanoke police found the body of a man at the bottom of a deep storage pit--
dead and apparently badly decomposed.
Firefighters and police arrived around six tonight and later lifted the body
out of the pit.

Two youngsters reportedly spotted the body alongside the Professional Arts
Building at 30 West Franklin Road.
A janitor at the building estimated the body was in the storage unit two or
three days and that the victim suffered a broken neck.
Police say they aren't sure how the man got into the stairwell or the cause

VMI athletics took a big hit today as athletic director Davis Babb resigned
his post effective immediately.
Babb had been at VMI for 13 years, and in his current position as chief
athletic administrator since 1991.

athletics at the Institute with the formation of the school's first cross
country and track teams.
His departure was not triggered by any controversy or scandal, but rather by
