Phillip Orren actually testified today -so the judge could hear his story before the jury does.
Orren says ROD Abed wrote him a letter last year.
In it, Abed said he'd told his lawyer how Orren has a reputation for starting fires- -having been convicted of arson.
"They wanted you to burn down the Corner Store," the letter says, "but you were scared."
Abed's lawyer tried to convince the court that the government got Orren to set him up.
Federal agents maintain they told Orren to just "sit, listen and watch."

Michigan defensive back Charles Woodson made it official today that he would leave school and enter the 1998 draft.
The Heisman Trophy winner also played offense for the Wolverines and he was second in the nation with 7 interceptions.
Meantime, West Virginia fans can rest a little easier now. Tailback Amos Zereoue will stay in school for his junior year.
He rushed for more than 15 hundred yards breaking the W-V-U and Big East Conference single season records.
