including falsified documents, improper maintenance, faulty repairs, and
repeated failure to supervise contractors.
FAA officials won't comment on the inspections until the final report is

An AirTran spokesperson said the company believes the inspections turned out
well.

In Salem, General Electric is extending its production shutdown for a third
week that will end January 24th.
The furlough was supposed to last only two weeks.
But G-E says it needs more time to upgrade computers so they won't crash in

For the second time in two months a local Sara Lee textile plant is getting a
new owner.
Last November Sara Lee sold its Hillsville facility.
Now a similar plant in Galax is joining eight others purchased by a
Winston-Salem company.
All employees are expected to keep their jobs.

A memorial service took the place of the concert and more than 6,000 fans
showed up.
But the link between Elvis and Southwest Virginia didn't end there.
In 1985 the Epperly's began building a replica of Graceland on the front
lawn of their Riverland Road home.
Later they added the house in Tupelo where Elvis was born, the Heartbreak
Hotel Restaurant, the Elvis Presley Car Museum and the Roanoke Civic Center.
For fans who can't make it to Memphis, Mini-Graceland offers a nearby
alternative.

((In Roanoke, only one lane of traffic is getting by in each direction along
Brandon Avenue from Mud Lick Road to Keagy Road--as crews work to widen Brandon
Avenue.
Delays can be expected there until next month when work should be completed.
And, in Roanoke County, Merriman Road is closed to through traffic from
Ranchcrest Drive to Springlawn Drive while workers widen the lanes there.
And, looking around the region..

in Botetourt County, the bridge over Mill Creek along Route 6-12 will be
closed while repairs are being made.

and in Pulaski County repairs are underway to the Route 11 Memorial Bridge.
Traffic is narrowed down to one lane there.

Olympic memorabilia.
He's managed to collect at least one item from every Olympics in the last 10
years.
Among his prized possessions-- a gold medal from the 1956 games in Stockholm
and an Olympic torch in Munich 1972.
You may ask what more can Durbin want?--a gold medal from the 1912 Olympic
games.
