Basset-Walker is closing its Chatham plant.
On March 14th, 320-people will be out of work.
Basset is closing three facilities company wide-- cutting nearly 700-jobs.
It's the latest in a series of layoffs hitting the industry.
Garment makers are finding there's not a big demand for knit products.
And plant managers say they have a hard time competing with the cost of

Last month, after more than 40-years in business, Dublin Garment Factory
closed its doors-- putting 150 people out of work.
One of Lynchburg's biggest employers got a little bigger today.
Telecommunications giant Ericsson Incorporated announced it's expanding its
cell phone manufacturing facility in the Hill City.
The move is a 30 million dollar investment and will create 150 new jobs.
Governor George Allen helped announce the deal this afternoon.

Allen presented the Hill City with a check for 800-thousand dollars to prep
the land for Ericsson's new facility.

A Danville man has lost a federal lawsuit against three city police
A jury this afternoon rejected a claim that he was beaten after his arrest
about four years ago.
Sam Sakellaris sued officers L.M. Adkins and L.R. Kennedy, saying they beat
him while he was handcuffed.
The lawsuit also said Lientenant J.C. Lewis stood by and encouraged it.
But the jury sided with the defendants, after a three-day trial in Danville
The Paducah, Kentucky teen accused of shooting his classmates- made his first
court appearance today.
Michael Carneal is charged with killing three classmates and wounding five
others- after an informal prayer gathering.
Carneal's attorney declined to enter a plea for his client- hinting that he
might use some type of insanity defense for Carneal.
The attorney said he would not deny any facts related to the Decemeber First
shooting, but wants to understand more about the boy's mental state.

Women in the study were divided into four groups based on their body-mass
index: lean, average, overweight or obese.
For example, a woman who is 5-foot-5 and weighs less than 120 pounds is lean;
a weight of 120 to 149 pounds is considered average; 150 to 179 pounds is
considered overweight; and a weight greater than 180 pounds is obese.
Doctors say women should gain between 25 to 35 pounds during pregnancy--but
obese woman should only put on an additional 15 to 25 pounds.
Fake fingernail kits are considered the third most dangerous household poison
behind oven and drain cleaners.
That's according to the journal Pediatrics.
The hazard apparently comes from liquid acrylic nail primers--
