More clouds than sun this weekend, temperatures will be chilly and there
will be snow flurries tomorrow afternoon.
An attorney is asking that felony charges against his client be dismissed in
Giles County because the commonwealth's attorney allegedly failed to fill out
the appropriate paperwork.
The argument was made in court this evening by Roy Jason Bowles' attorney.
Bowles allegedly committed breaking and entering as well as grand larceny in
February of last year.
At the time the charges were filed-- Bowles was incarcerated in West
Bowles attorney argues his client should've been brought to trial within
180- days of April 14th.
That's when prosecutor Garland Spangler allegedly knew for certain Bowles'
was being held.

Steele acknowledges Spangler made a good argument in court today.
Spangler says the 180- days should begin from the actual time of arrest--
which was in early November.
School officials say a Salem seventh- grader came to school with a fully
loaded semi automatic pistol in his backpack this week.
The 13 year old, a student at Andrew Lewis Middle School, has been charged
with possession of a firearm on school property.
He was released into his parents' custody.
The administration is recommending the student be expelled-- he's currently
suspended for 10 days.
Roanoke postal workers made a startling discovery this week.
A live pipe bomb was found among packages waiting to be delivered at the
main post office on Rutherford Avenue.
It was discovered late Tuesday night.
The State Police quickly disarmed the explosive and moved it safely out of
It's believed the device was picked up by an employee from a blue mail
collection box somewhere in southwest Virginia.
Authorities don't know who sent the bomb.
An investigation is under way-- The State Police, A-T-F, and Postal
Inspection Service are all involved.

State Police are looking for a man who tried to abduct a woman on
The woman's car broke down near the 581 interchange this morning.
A man driving a green Jeep Cherokee stopped and offered to let her use his
When she got to his vehicle, he grabbed her by the jacket and tried to get
her into the Jeep.
She broke free and he drove away.
Police are hoping anyone who saw the incident will give them a call.
A man who says he firebombed the Corner Store in Roanoke is telling his
tale to a federal jury this evening.
Richard Wayne Chisholm, Junior, says the deal was made at the Speedway Mart
about a week before the Corner Store fire.
Chisholm says Abed family members were there, but they spoke in Arabic. He
testified that they later told him that Fahad Tawalbeh- -the owner of the
Speedway- -would pay 2-thousand dollars to have the other store burned.
He said Fahad wanted the Corner Store burned because it was taking his
After scoping out the store and the neighborhood, Chisholm says he and
Amar, Rod and Obayda Abed came up with a plan.
He says they bought a bottle of Boones Farm wine, filled it up with
gasoline at the 7-11 and stuffed a rag in it.
Chisholm says Amar lit the rag and Chisholm threw the Molotov Cocktail
through the window he'd broken out with a rock.
Chisholm has already pled guilty to his role in crime.

That legislation is being proposed by Senator Chuck Robb.. who met with
tobacco growers and producers today in Danville.
Robb wants to eliminate government-controlled quotas and institute a
