A Brandon Avenue gas station had its windows shattered earlier today during
an apparent robbery attempt.
The owners of Bennington Chevron say a man carrying a bag with bones, a
double-egded razor and other items was allegedly trying to steal the frame of a
race car when the trouble started.

A Lynchburg man was shot early this morning.
Police found 22-year-old Vincent E. Johnson at the intersection of 10th and

house went up in flames last night.
One of Edmonds' daughters, who lives close by, was on the scene shortly
after fire crews arrived.

Fire officials say the fire was probably accidental.
They suspect Edmonds spilled some kerosene while trying to fill a heater
next to his kitchen stove.
It's possible a spark set off a chain reaction which burned the house down.

The state department is investigating the rape of 5 Maryland College
students on a tour of Guatemala.
16 students and staff members from St. Mary's College were on a bus that was
stopped by four gunmen.
Everyone was robbed, and five women were taken away and assaulted.
So far one man has been arrested.
It sounds like a recycling dream... plastic you can eat.
Even more remarkable, it was discovered by two high school students in
Clarksville Virginia, about 20 miles east of South Boston... when their science
experiment blew up.

A group of citizens failed in their attempt to get a modified ward system
referendum passed in November.
Now, the group is pushing for city government to be more responsive to the
citizens of the star city.

A group in Roanoke is offering teenagers a new, safer place to hang out.
The group is called "Straight Street."

Lots of traffic, little highway--that's the problem VDOT seems to be running
into in some areas.
Stacey Martin has an update on road construction and efforts to widen the
roadways in this week's edition of Road Report.

5-81 as crews continue working to replace the bridge along Wood Haven Road.
And, VDOT crews have finished their work along the Route 11 bridge in

along Route 460 in Buchanan County as crews work to widen the lanes there.
A note from VDOT-- the speed limit in the construction zone is 25 miles per
hour and police will be on the scene during peak traffic hours.
And, work continues along the Alternate Route 58 St. Paul Bypass in Wise and
VDOT is working to widen the road, delays are expected.

help with homework.
Now, the group wants teens to have some more fun.

A paraglider in New Zealand found out first-hand how dangerous the sport can
It was smooth sailing for Lyn Watkins until a gust of wind hit his
canopy--sending him falling 90 feet to the ground.
But, fortunately a reserve chute cushioned his fall--he suffered a broken
pelvis, dislocated shoulder and a few chipped teeth.
You'd think he want to give up the sport after that experience-- but, he now
says that the sport is not as dangerous as it looks.
