the trial included just one day of actual testimony.
Trial resumes Tuesday, as evidence continues on the Thirteenth Street
fires.

That same night two people died in an apartment fire just four doors down
the street. And they thought they knew who had set this fire.
On Friday one of the Abed co-defendants told the jury how he and three of

Richard Chisholm also said he'd been told later not to worry about
witnesses.))

marshal originally ruled the apartment fire an accident.

Fire officials say the fire was probably accidental.

((It was another bad week for the textile industry.
In Chatham, nearly 350-workers will be unemployed come March 14th, when
Bassett-Walker closes its factory.
And in Martinsville, Tultex will not say how many of its 25-hundred employees

In Roanoke, the company that makes machines that make eyeglass lenses
blindsided some of its workers with pink slips.
Innotech's parent company, Johnson and Johnson, said only that the layoffs
affect four departments -- no word on how many people.

Better news in Radford, where Kollmorgen Motion Technologies is adding
15-thousand square feet and 30 new jobs.
The expansion is part of the city's plan to build an 11-acre Corporate
Campus.

In Lynchburg, Governor George Allen came to town, playing Santa Claus for one
last time.
The outgoing Governor brought a check for 800-thousand dollars, helping
cell-phone maker Ericsson build a new warehouse and add 150-new jobs.

Norfolk Southern is chucking North American Van Lines.
The subsidiary apparently was not moving enough money into the N-S coffers.
The railroad plans to spend 903-million dollars in capital improvements this
year, 150-million going toward the purchase of Conrail.

It was a week of big losses and bigger gains on Wall Street.
The Dow Jones Industrials finished gaining 173-points.
The Nasdaq added 60.

Shortly after getting married Johnson headed to Roanoke to open her mission
on Salem Avenue.
After much hard work the Rescue Mission became one of the areas largest
Christian-based social service providers.
And, it expanded--moving to its current location on 4th and Tazewell.
The mission is planning a 50th anniversary celebration that includes
the production of a musical called "Soup, Soap and Salvation," a story of the
Rescue Mission's history.
