There were warm greetings when the hatches were open... Astronaut David Wolf, who has been on board the station for four months, greeted his fellow Americans.
Wolf is headed home, and 46 year old engineer Michael Thomas will take his place.
He will be the final American astronaut to live on Mir. NASA will then focus its attention on building a new space station.

It would make possession or consumption of alcohol anywhere on the grounds of a state- supported school a class two misdemeanor.

Five new members will be added to the Pro Football Hall of Fame during induction ceremonies this summer.
The 1988 Electees are first year candidate Anthony Munoz of Cincinnati, Chicago's Mike Singletary, Paul Krause a safety for the Redskins and Vikings, Dwight Stephenson a center for the Dolphins and Tommy McDonald who played 12 seasons with 5 teams including the Eagles.

Flags were raised over the Olympic Village in Nagano today, beginning the final two-weeks of preparation for the Olympic Winter Games.
The honorary mayor of the village- who also happens to be the emperor's cousin- declared the village to be open.
After the ceremony, it was moving day for some athletes from the U-S, Taiwan and the Virgin Islands.
More than 3-thousand Olympians are expected to stay in the village.
