The job market looks good across the Commonwealth-- and officials credit
that with a strong economy.
Virginia's jobless rate dropped to three-point-one percent in December.
That helped give the state its lowest annual unemployment in eight years.
The preliminary average jobless rate
for 19-97 was four percent, the lowest since 19-89.
The usual increase in jobs during the holiday season also helped boost the
December figure.
Some localities reported December jobless rates as low as one-and-a-half
percent or below.
That's almost a labor shortage.
