48- year- old Evelyn Williams of Blacksburg hit 20- year- old Daniel Kelly a year ago, as he and his girlfriend walked by the side of the road.
Williams says she drank two double vodka tonics with dinner, which she finished about an hour before the accident.
Police waited six hours after the accident to give her a blood test.
Experts clashed sharply in court yesterday on whether she was under the influence when she struck Kelly.
Police reports show her car never left the travel lane.

Real Estate Broker Earl Frith's handwriting has become part of his defense in denying he made two eight-thousand dollar cash deposits.
The government contends the deposits are proof that Frith was trying to avoid the requirement to report cash transactions over 10-thousand dollars.
(----------------)
VO-NAT
SUPER=03-Roanoke

Frith spent much of yesterday on the witness stand.
He insisted the handwriting on the deposit slips is not his.
To prove the point, his lawyer showed the jury cancelled checks Frith wrote around the same time the cash deposits were made in 1989... to compare the handwriting.

Judge James Turk asked why Frith said he HAD made the two 8-thousand dollar deposits -when asked about it in 1991.
The conversation was recorded by the I-R-S and played for the jury this week.

Around noon, crews from three volunteer fire companies were called to a house off Roachtown Road in southeastern Bedford County.
A neighbor had reported smoke coming from the roof of the single- story brick building.
Firefighters were attempting to ventilate the house when the blaze erupted out a front window.
Authorities say strong winds and a driving rain made it difficult for crews to get a handle on the fire.
They spent more than three hours, trying to extinguish flames that had reached into the roof.
No one was home when the fire broke out.
