Police and rescue crews in Danville got an unusual call today- the report
of a car over a bridge.
This is what they found when they arrived.
A woman apparently drove off the road.. just before the Worsham Street
Her car plunged down over the embankment and landed on the railroad tracks
The airbags deployed.
The driver was pulled out and taken to the hospital.
No word on her condition or what caused the accident.
Traffic is at a standstill along Route 501 in Gladys-- after a tanker truck
crashed and spilled flammable liquid.
The accident happened around 3-30 this afternoon.
The driver-- Raymond S. Jackson was not seriously injured in the wreck but
charges are pending against him.
Police are directing traffic around the area and expect to have the road
re-opened around midnight.
Tomorrow morning motorists can expect delays on 220 North around Boones Mill.
About seven a-m, authorities will remove a tractor trailer overturned in the

The weather that caused a train derailment in Glasgow continues to plague
crews cleaning up the wreckage.
Norfolk Southern workers have been working since dawn Thursday.
They're trying to lift five derailed cars out of the Maury River.

Crews struggled today to operate train-lifting machinery on rain-soaked

Marye's figures show that under Gilmore's bill, the average family with a

Under Marye's food tax bill, the average family that spends 100 dollars a
week on groceries would get 52-dollars in relief.
Even in the fifth year of the phase-in, "no car tax" would mean 128- dollars
relief under Gilmore's plan for that family... or 156 dollars relief if the
food tax was cut.
The Governor's office does NOT dispute the numbers.

Lets start on the ice where Hockey History Weekend began with the Roanoke
Old Timers taking on the Greensboro Old timers in a night made for laughs to
say the least.
Players that got hockey off on the right skate decades ago came back to
strut their stuff. Pierre Paiement played for Roanoke as did his former Roanoke
valley rebel teammate Claude Piche. Greensboro had the advantage in years and,
coached by ECHL commissioner Pat Kelly; beat Roanoke 7-4.
Henry Brabham coached Roanoke and the reasons for losing went back and forth.
