Plastic soda bottles and chemicals made up seven homemade bombs that EXPLODED yesterday outside a Giles County facility for the developmentally disabled.

Police discovered the devices shortly before one yesterday afternoon outside the Elm Tree home in Pearisburg.
Authorities describe the bombs as extremely dangerous.

Allegations of drug use have cast a shadow over Canada's first Olympic gold medal in Nagano. The International Olympic Committee says Ross Rebagliati tested positive for marijuana after winning the snowboarding giant slalom on Sunday. He has been disqualified and has to give back his gold medal. The Canadian Olympic Association is appealing, saying Rebagliati hasn't used pot since last April.
Russian domination of pairs figure skating continued, as Artur Dmitriev and Oksana Kazakova won the gold medal. Their spectacular performance in the freeskate earned a perfect 6 from one judge. The closest Americans, Kyoko ito and Jason Dungjen, placed fourth.

Defense attorneys scoffed at the notion that anyone could have tossed a burning bottle through a window covered by metal bars... seven feet off the ground... with enough force to hit the opposite wall nearly ten feet away.
An A-T-F agent used the full-scale model to demonstrate how it could have happened.

Two separate accidents in Franklin County yesterday took the lives of two men.
State police say 49- year- old Jerry Fuller Hudson died after his car was hit broadside as he tried to pull onto route 8-90 from a private drive.
In another accident, police say Micheal Shawn Holly was not wearing his seat belt when his car crossed route 6-0-5 into oncoming traffic.
His car hit a pick up head on.

They're concerned about the quality of care residents are receiving.
About 70 of the nursing home's nearly 90 patients rely on medicaid or medicare.

A Giles County facility for the developmentally disabled was rocked by the explosion of seven homemade chemical bombs yesterday.

Police discovered the devices shortly before one yesterday afternoon outside the Elm Tree home in Pearisburg.
Authorities describe the bombs as extremely dangerous-- They were made of plastic soda bottles and other chemicals.


Two other bombs did NOT explode and were removed by state police.
Authorities say charges are pending against two Giles county juveniles and one adult.
No one was hurt.

A lethal injection ended the life of convicted killer Tony Mackall last night, three hours after Governor Gilmore rejected clemency.
The man convicted of killing a Woodbridge gas station cashier in 19-86 asked his victim's family for forgiveness.
