A man trying to speed away from police is dead tonight- after a high speed
chase through two states ends in Danville.
Police in Casswell County North Carolina chased the car into Virginia-
The driver apparently lost control of the car on Holland Road in Danville-
hit a tree and the car flipped.
The driver of the car is dead-
The car had Virginia tags, but the man's identity and where he is from are
not being released.
No word on what prompted the police chase.
Joe Gaskins says he always wanted to be a police officer.
Today, he was named Roanoke's new police chief.
Joe Dashiell reports on the announcement and the reaction that included both

A deal's been struck tonight- that means a former secret service officer
will have to answer limited grand jury questioning-
The Justice and Treasury Departments reached the agreement with special
prosecutor Kenneth Starr.
He's looking into whether President Clinton had an affair with former White
House intern Monica Lewinsky, and asked her to lie about it.
Ex-Secret Service officer Lewis Fox has been subpoenaed.
Fox's attorney says his client saw Lewinsky visit Clinton in the Oval
Office but Fox isn't sure if the two were alone.
The President will makea a major speech Tuesday- on Iraq.
The President will speak from the Pentagon after getting a briefing from the
Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Meantime, Clinton continues urging Saddam Hussein to allow unlimited U-N

So the families filed a civil suit against Cornwell last year.
Now they've persuaded 15 lawmakers from both parties to sponsor a resolution
that would study how to better protect autopsy records from unauthorized public

reputation could be on the line with a bill that specifically mentions the
"tragic" impact of "crime novels?"

Area pharmacists are starting to ask serious questions about why the cost of
certain generic nerve drugs is skyrocketing.
Bedford pharmacist Paul Bisbee says he went to re- order the drug
Clorazepate (clore-AZ-uh-pate) yesterday, only to find the price for a bottle
of 500 tablets had risen: from ten dollars to 343 dollars.
Bisbee says he's been told two pharmaceutical companies: Mylan and Watson,
have bought up ALL the raw ingredients for certain nerve drugs.
Now the price of those drugs is going way up.
