presidential sites, sites at the heart of the standoff over U-N weapons
inspections.
Meantime, an Iraqi newspaper today said hundreds of thousands of soldiers

Authorities aren't certain what prompted a shooting that sent a Hopewell man
to the hospital.
Police say 40- year- old John Wyatt had been shot in the face in his Bath
County residence along Route 6-29.
He's listed in stable condition.
Police arrested Gary McLaughlin of Marlington, West Virginia and charged him
with attempted murder.

A bill to restructure Virginia's electric industry is headed for the House
floor.
The bill would allow consumers to choose their power supplier by January
First, 2004.
It also would allow the state's utilities to buy power and resell it to
customers from a variety of companies beginning in 2001.
The bill was approved yesterday in a 22-to-3 vote by the Corporations,
Insurance and Banking Committee.

Some doggie relief in Roanoke County...
County supervisors agreed to reconsider the two-dog per household limit
after hearing from several families who had been fined for having one too many
canines.
The statute, which requires a kennel permit for homes with more than two
dogs, has been on the books since 19-82.
While the supervisors didn't change the law, they did agree to allow 40
families who registered dog number three by January 31st to keep the extra dog.

There was no medal for Picabo Street in the women's downhill. She skied

gold with a blistering run. But Picabo had no regrets.
It was sweet redemption for Austrian Hermann Maier in the men's super giant
slalom. After that horrific crash that eliminated him from the men's downhill
three days ago, he won the gold medal in the super-G on Sunday.
Japan's newest Olympic hero is Kazuyoshi Funaki, whose perfect performance
in
the large hill ski jump won him the gold medal. He had a massive leap of 132.5
meters and scored perfect marks for style.
The Russian couple, Pasha Grishuk and Yevgeny Platov, remain in the lead in
the ice dancing competition. They danced to "Jailhouse Rock" in the original
program, which is worth 30-percent of their score. The free skate, seen
tonight on CBS prime time, will determine the gold medal.

The House of Delegates is talking safety on the state's waterways.
"Jet Skis" were the topic of two bills.
The first bill would make it illegal for someone on a personal watercraft to
follow too closely behind a boat, weave past boats or jump the wake of another
boat.
The second would force companies that rent the small boats to teach people
how to operate them before taking to the water.
Though they represent only about 5 percent of total registered boats in
Virginia, state authorities say personal watercraft are involved in more than
thirty percent of water accidents.
