One of the most memorable events-- so far-- took place last month when town council members dressed as their founding fathers did back in 1798-- when the town by an Act of the General Assembly.
Virginia Tech helped with the costumes and has been actively involved in planning the year's events.
After all- Blacksburg wouldn't be what it is today-- WITHOUT the university.

(("The Borrowers" is a new movie based on a series of books by Mary Norton, featuring loveable, resourceful, tiny, tiny people who live beneath the floorbaords of homes. And, well, you know how you often can't find things around the house? Those are the things the Borrowers borrow. They're not theives, they're fine upstanding little people, especially when it comes to immoral, unethical people, like the greedy lawyer played by John Goodman.
NATSND Clip "Amazing! Tiny, little people!" "Tada! 24 luxury apartments in the place of one house."
TRACK The lawyer is destroying the house, claiming there is no legal document to save it, though the borrowers have the document. They borrowed it, and they're out to save the house, the regular-sized people who live in it, including their young son, and themselves and their home beneath the floorboards.
NATSND Clip "It's not Thursday, is it?"
TRACK John Goodman, enraged in retrieving the document, is an absolutely delightful villain.
NATSND Clip "I'm going to borrow you!"
TRACK And this thoroughly charming, enchanting, full of fun movie as directed by Peter Hewitt, is movie magic, is what it is. "The Borrowers" plural, as in very plural.
NATSND Clip "I hate you little people!" "Aw, that's a shame, because we love you."
DENNIS ON CAMERA It looks great, doesn't it? And it's very entertaining too. With a very special touch, fortunately precisely the right touch. All leading up to a final large number eight. That's right, "The Borrowers" is a keeper. Oh, and don't forget to take the kids. Dennis Cunningham for CBS News.))[Movies-Bump] [2 shot toss]
