An Amarillo jury today disagreed with plaintiffs who alleged beef prices plunged as a result of an Oprah program about mad cow disease.

General District Court judge Jim Updike is now in line to succeed retiring circuit judge William Sweeney later this year.
Updike had served as Bedford County prosecutor for 15 years before ascending to the bench in 19-95.

The deal was worked out between House Democratic leader Dick Cranwell and Lynchburg senator Steve Newman.
