with a nine-millimeter pistol.

gunshot wounds -- a sheriff's deputy shot him on the right side of his head --
AND Jenkins shot himself in the mouth.
The medical examiner does not know for sure which shot came first --
but the suicidal gunshot killed Jenkins instantly.

28-year-old Leonard Brent Jenkins was pulled over for driving
erratically on Hardbarger Road early Sunday morning.
Deputy Earnest Spiva gave him field sobriety tests -- the sheriff says
Jenkins failed them all.
Then Deputy Spiva called for backup and a breathalyzer.
The sheriff says when Spiva approached the white Ford Ranger again
about 20 minutes later -- this time with backup -- Jenkins shot the officer
twice in the chest.
Backup Deputy Greg Hepler heard Jenkins fire a third time.
Then he shot Jenkins once in the head from behind the truck on the
passenger's side.
The sheriff says Hepler acted correctly -- and was defending Spiva.

Jenkins who lived with his mother in a trailer in the Shorewood
community had been previously convicted for sexual battery, reckless driving,
three counts of larceny, and two counts of driving under the influence.
His mother was still in shock this afternoon and did not want to
comment.
Spiva -- the 23-year-old deputy who was shot -- was wearing a bulletproof
vest and will recover from his bruises. Both officers involved are on paid
administrative leave and will undergo counseling.

There was another man at the scene-- 24-year-old Brent Linkenhoker -- but
he was passed out on the front seat of the truck during the shootout. He was
charged with being drunk in public.

The government is warning patients who are taking the powerful acne drug
Accutane it could be causing depression.

The maker of the drug say people with severe acne are at risk for depression
anyway, and there's no proof that Accutane contributes.
But Food and Drug Administration officials say about a dozen patients
became depressed while taking Accutane.
The F-D-A reports depression disappeared after they stopped the medication,
and recurred once they took it again.
Accutane already carries a warning that it can cause birth
defects.
