Early Sunday morning, a Botetourt County sheriff's deputy pulled Leonard Jenkins over after he suspected the man was driving drunk.
A short while later Jenkins was dead after he apparently shot at the deputy.
Another deputy returned fire, but an autopsy yesterday revealed that Jenkins took his own life.
Tina Tenret reports.

So Deputy Earnest Spiva called for backup and a breathalyzer -- but when he approached the Ford pickup again, Jenkins shot Spiva twice in the chest.
Backup deputy Greg Hepler heard Jenkins fire a third shot, then Hepler shot Jenkins in the head from behind the truck.
The sheriff says Hepler was right to shoot Jenkins.

A medical examiner says it was a self inflicted gunshot wound not a police bullet that apparently took the life of a suspected drunken driver in Botetourt County.

Sheriff's officials say the 28- year- old shot Deputy Earnest Spiva twice in the chest.
