The Blue Ridge Institute features a changing gallery of exhibits that portray the old way of life in Western Virginia.
Wood carvings, old apple harvesting equipment, and various home- made gifts are just some of the items that celebrate the area's rich heritage.
But the museum also encourages local residents to take stock of their OWN history.

((RODDY MOORE/BLUE RIDGE INSTIT. DIR.: JUST LETTING PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT IT HELPS TO PRESERVE IT, BECAUSE THEN THEY START LOOKING INTERNALLY AT THEMSELVES, AT THEIR FAMILIES, LOOK AT THOSE CUSTOMS WITHIN THOSE FAMILIES AND START THINKING, MAYBE WE SHOULD PRESERVE THIS OR HOW CAN WE TAKE CARE OF THESE OLD PHOTOGRAPHS, OR WHAT FAMILY PRAYERS DID WE HAVE, OR WHAT FAMILY SONGS DID WE HAVE, JUST MAKING PEOPLE AWARE OF IT AND WANTING TO PASS IT ON, I THINK IS A VERY IMPORTANT THING.))
