An apparent murder-suicide in Pulaski last night left two people dead.

[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=03-Pulaski/Last Night;]

It happened around 7- 30 inside a couple's upstairs apartment at 429- second street.
Authorities say it appears 26- year old Charles David Harrison shot his wife once before turning the gun on himself.

Tonya Hall Harrison died a short time later from a gunshot wound to the head.
Police say the couple had been arguing and Tonya was actually in the process of moving out with help from her mother.

The medical examiner's office in Oakland County, Michigan confirmed last night that Dr. Jack Kevorkian apparently helped a Roanoke woman end her life. But, as David Johnson reports, 61-year old Patricia Graham had other alternatives that she may not have known about.

Dr. Jack Kevorkian apparently delivered Patricia Graham's body to the Southern Michigan hospital emergency room. An attached note read she suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis. Carilion officials say this incident should serve as a notice that society has to heighten its awareness of alternatives to physician-assisted suicide.
[SOT=13:08:22]

[RUNS=:12]

The medical examiner's office noted that Graham died of poisoning by lethal injection. Hite says the community has to do more to make pain management and comfort care more affordable.

[RUNS=:11]
[OUT Q=ALTERNATIVES.]

Hite says what Kevorkian allegedly did for Graham differs from what most states recognize as a patient's right to refuse treatment, in which the patient basically dies of natural causes. In either case, such decisions ethically require a long-term doctor-patient relationship and a second medical opinion about the patient's condition. Hite recommends, at the least, that there should be some standards or guidelines in place to prevent physicians from making independent decisions. David Johnson, News 7.
