A not guilty plea from Reverand Henry Lyons- the head of the National Baptist Convention USA.
[SUPER=03-St. Petersburg, FL;]
Lyons is accused of skimming money from companies his church did business with.
An investigation focused on Lyons after his wife was charged wtih setting fire to a house he owned.
Lyons is charged with inflating convention membership from 500 thousand to eight and a half million- taking money donated to rebuild churches burned by arson and spending church money on himself- including this house.
The National Baptist convention is one of the largest black churches in the nation.
If convicted Lyons could face 30 years in prison.
The Army's former top enlisted man will not go to prison.
Instead, a military jury gave Sergeant Major Gene McKinney a reprimand and a reduction in rank for obstructing justice.
McKinney was cleared of sexual misconduct charges- but convicted of obstructing justice for encouraging one of his accusers to lie to Army investigators.
McKinney could have received up to five years and a dishonorable discharge on that charge.
