Joe Adrian Leftwich pleaded guilty yesterday in Danville Circuit Court to ten charges including capital murder and robbery.
He admits he shot Teresa Anderson Hayes in the head in December 1997.
She was found dead in her car on Chatham Avenue in Danville.
Leftwich faces the death penalty on the capital murder charge and a maximum life sentence on the robbery charge.
His sentencing has been postponed while the case is still being investigated.

With the news of a recent scam involing people who go through the mail of others, stealing pre-approved credit cards and making purchases, the community grew alarmed.
But the post office says this time it was nothing more than STREET SUPERVISION.

Martin says mail theft in the Roanoke area is actually pretty uncommon.

League members say the county is ignoring the school's significance -- so it should NOT preserve slave quarters on the former Greenfield plantation.
They say they have written to the Virginia Historic Society to BLOCK funding for Greenfield which is also slated to include a business park and recreation site.
The county administrator says the league should not tie its school campaign to the future of Greenfield, because the park will benefit all residents.
And, Burgess adds, the league cannot stop funding for Greenfield.

A search of Emmett Cressell, Junior's jail cell ONE week before trial has prompted his attorneys to seek a delay.

Cressell is one of two suspects accused of burning and decapitating a black man in Grayson County last summer.
His attorneys, Jeff Dorsey and Mark Claytor, say they'll ask a judge tomorrow to delay the case in order to investigate last week's search of their client's jail cell.
Officials were reportedly looking for marijuana.
But Dorsey, after meeting with his client, says several things don't add up.
Dorsey says the lead investigator in the murder case was involved in the search.

With the news of a recent scam involing people who go through the mail of others, stealing pre-approved credit cards and making purchases, the community grew alarmed.
But the post office says this time it was nothing more than STREET SUPERVISION.

Postal route inspections are conducted on a regular basis.
Martin says mail theft in the Roanoke area is actually pretty uncommon.
Still citizens who fear their mail is being stolen or tampered with are advised to call the police or local post office.
