An autopsy pinpointed the cause of death for a Montgomery County man found dead in Catawba Sunday morning.

An assistant state medical examiner says 36-year old Michael Gregory Durham died from multiple gunshots to the chest and abdomen.
But officials were unable to determine how long he'd been dead.
A passerby discovered the body shortly before noon along Mossy Spring Road.
Sheriff's investigators are NOT sure if Durham died at the scene-- or if his body was dumped there.

Two high school students are dead and two others in critical condition after a collision in southwest Virginia yesterday.
Two 16-year-old Hurley High School students were killed when their car crossed a center line on a curve and slammed nearly head-on into a coal truck.
The truck driver and two 17-year-old students in the car were injured.
The crash prompted Buchanan County school officials to send all 340 students of the school home early -- after the crash site had been cleared of wreckage.

The thought of Governor Gilmore's car tax plan going forward has some Bedford County residents fearing their tax burden will increase.

At last night's Board of Supervisors meeting, one man suggested the panel explore broader tax options, such as a Business, Professional and Occupational license tax. Another idea the local government may consider is a consumer utility tax differential between businesses and residents. Officials say that tax would generate about 405-thousand dollars in additional revenue. Authorities have yet to determine how much money a B-POL tax would yield.

A Lexington doctor is being investigated by the state Board of Medicine for unprofessional conduct- -including having sex with patients.
Doctor William Weddle categorically denied the charges yesterday.
He said -- quote -- "I have practiced medicine for 25 years and never have I engaged in any improper sexual conduct with a patient" -- end quote.
Weddle was cited by the state Board of Medicine for having sex with TWO patients... relationships that allegedly overlapped and lasted more than a decade in one case.
Among the allegations... that he had sex with a woman in an examining room at COMMUNITY Hospital's Emergency Room.[

A gross receipts-- or Business, Professional and Occupational license tax-- would levy taxes on local businesses to generate revenue for the locality. The county's administration has not yet studied how much revenue that tax would generate.
