These weekend training drills usually happen in places like Fort Pickett in Virginia or A.P. Hill. But budget reductions have cut back on those training trips--and also cut back on basic supplies, members of the guard say are needed.

A Treasury Department review found the guns in question don't meet requirements for import for sporting purposes, mainly because they can be fitted with large capacity magazines.

As part of its efforts to rename an historic black school, a Botetourt County civic group has met with the N-double-A-C-P.

Botetourt County officials plan to preserve the original slave cabins on the Greenfield Plantation, but have changed the name of Central Academy, the area's first black school, to William Clark Middle.
The group says that selectively excludes part of the county's black history.
So it is trying to cut funding for the Greenfield Development-- until the name of the school is restored.

Firefighters worked for almost two-hours cutting through the machine before they finally freed the boy.
Jaminique wasn't seriously hurt, but his problems are far from over.
He's in big trouble with his mom who reportedly asked police to arrest her son so he'd learn that committing a crime, no matter how small, is wrong.

A state task force created after a string of alcohol-related deaths at Virginia colleges meets today at Virginia Tech.
Last year a Tech student fell from a high-rise dormitory window after a night of partying.
Meantime, some fraternities at the University of Virginia are upset that the school has forced the postponent of ``rush'' to January.
The recruitment of new members usually occurs in the fall.
U-V-A President John Casteen said he took the action after the fraternities refused to endorse an alcohol-free ``rush.''

But, now it seems The Fisher Peak Music Center will finally become a reality.

Congress has appropriated five- point- two million dollars for the first phase of construction. And the land has been acquired along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Carroll and Grayson Counties.
Ninth District Congressman Rick Boucher says the project is now on track for a groundbreaking later this year.

Boucher says enough money has been set aside to build infrastructure, an amphitheater and hiking trails. A second phase of construction will require additional funding.
About two million people travel on the parkway in Virginia every year. And Boucher says the Fisher Peak project wi
