The Botetourt County Commonwealth's Attorney has cleared two deputies of any wrongdoing in a shootout that proved deadly to a drunk driver.

Brent Jenkins of Buchanan was driving drunk on March first -- his blood alcohol content was almost three times the legal limit.
Deputy Jay Spiva was about to administer a breathalyzer test when Jenkins shot him twice in the chest, then killed himself.
Backup deputy Greg Hepler also shot Spiva in the head from behind his truck.
But Jenkins' father says deputies should have put his son in the patrol car while they waited for the breathalyzer device -- instead of leaving him in the truck to panic.

A Chesterfield County jury has recommended a life sentence for Kelly Tibbs, the last of four women convicted of killing a Lynchburg woman last summer.
Witnesses said the victim, Stacey Hanna, was savagely beaten for interfering in a lesbian relationship between two of the accused.
Only one of the defendants, Domica Winckler, faces a possible death sentence based on the recommendation of her trial jury.
She is to be sentenced next week.

Inhalant abuse led to a 14-year old boy being burned at a friend's house yesterday.

Police say while inhaling gasoline fumes, the teen accidentially spilled gas on his shirt.
When a friend lit a cigarette nearby the shirt caught fire.
The boy ran across the street to Jackson River Middle School for medical attention.

A 14-year old boy who was sniffing gasoline at a friend's house in Roanoke yesterday suffered burns after a nearby friend lit up.

Police say while inhaling fumes, the teen accidentially spilled gas on his shirt.
When a friend lit a cigarette nearby the shirt caught fire.
The boy ran across the street to Jackson River Middle School for medical attention.
He was taken to the hospital for treatment and released a few hours later.

Some people in Covington are trying stop construction of a new regional jail in that city.

The fire that killed two children yesterday morning in Henry County has been ruled an accident.
Four-month old Kristen Bowman and her four-year old brother Jacob died when their family's trailer caught fire. Their parents and two other siblings were able to escape the blaze.

The case has been closed against two Botetourt County deputies involved in a March shootout with a drunk driver.
The Botetourt County Commonwealth's attorney says the deputies acted correctly by shooting Brent Jenkins after he fired at the officers.
