But the two suspects who eyewitnesses helped identify are black.. and sheriff Wilson Staples says the pair have offered no explanation for their actions.

Fire destroyed a vacant building in southeast Roanoke today. Investigators say the cause of that blaze is also suspicious.

The two- story structure was located between Greenbrier Avenue and Kenwood Boulevard. Firefighters were called to the neighborhood around 10:30 this morning after residents across the street spotted the flames. The storage building was destroyed.
No one was injured and the fire did not endanger any homes. Investigators haven't determined the cause, but residents of the area say the building was used by vagrants and neighborhood children.

A Bedford County deputy shot and killed his father in a hunting accident last week.
27 year old Kevin Adams was out with his father last Thursday, when he fired at what he thought was a turkey.
He hit 55-year-old Marshall Adams in the chest. The elder Adams died the next day.
A state game warden says he's investigating the accident and plans to present his findings to the commonwealth's attorney.

The Montgomery County sheriff's department wants to do something about 9-1-1 hang-up calls.
The department is now keeping track of all hang-ups and is vowing to prosecute serious repeat offenders.

Later that day, the women accepted a ride home from one of the alleged victims and two other fraternity members. Lexington police say they were taken to a remote area... one was tied up with duct tape, and another escaped.
One of the women called police and the three men were charged with abduction.
Then one of the men filed a complaint and the women were charged with aggravated sexual battery.

College basketball's player of the year, Antwan Jamison is leaving North Carolina for the pros.
Former Carolina Coach Dean Smith told Jamison he'd probably be one of the top five picked in the June draft.
The six-nine forward says a key element in making this choice was that he will graduate on schedule after the second session of summer school.
Jamison's 22 points and 10 rebounds a game helped U-N-C reach the final four last season.

A 20 car pile-up on lap 141 that was triggered when Ward Burton tapped Dale Earnhardt in the tri-oval sent a number of drivers to the in field care center and several other to their trailers with torn up cars.

Some northwest Roanoke residents are concerned after a series of arson fires in their community. Now they've called an emergency meeting--

The most recent fire on Harrison Avenue left a 102-year old woman and her daughter without a home.
Members of the Edgewood, Morwanda and Summit Hills communities are meeting with police and fire investigators tonight.
