A resident of the Clearview Manor apartment complex was killed when a cigarette she was smoking apparently set her on fire.

Fire investigators say evidence indicates 63-year old Sadie B-Jones was smoking in her second floor apartment.
Her cigarette apparently flared, catching her clothing on fire shortly after 7 p-m.
Fire damages were contained to Jones' apartment, although the rest of the retirement community was temporarily hampered by smoke damage.
All of the other 100 or so residents were evacuated from the building until the smoke was cleared.
Fire fighters ruled the cause of the blaze an accident.
Counseling is being made available to help residents of the home and firefighters deal with the fatality.

Tony Johnson isn't your typical P.R. Coordinator. Sure he has an office...

(nat break with the big grey box)

but this is it. Sometime the hardest part of Tony's day is finding out where the workers put it. However, don't be fooled, just because he's mobile doesn't mean he can escape the constant ring of the phone or barrage of e-mail from his bosses. Yes, even the circus runs its own web server.
And living on a train doesn't mean you have to be out of touch either.

(about 2:44:15) ITS LIKE A SMALL APARTMENT. EVERYBODY HAS EVERYTHING, BED AND SATALITE TELEVISION, RCA SHOULD DO A COM

MERCIAL CAUSE YOU GO TO THE TRAIN AND SEE 20-30 OF THOSE THINGS POINTED TO THE SKY. (2:44:36)
Johnson has only been on the road for 9 months. He says he does miss opening the paper and reading the box score of his home town Cleveland Indians, but other wise he wouldn't change a thing.

(2:39:20) THE ROAD TRAVEL IS NOT WHAT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE, ITS BETTER. I LOVE TRAVELING YOU GO TO SLEEP IN ONE TOWN

AND WAKE UP IN THE NEXT. YOU HAVE A NEW BEGINNING, ALWAYS SOMETHING NEW TO DO. (2:39:38)
Dance Captain Marissa Richardson misses her family in Roanoke, but she loves the train as well.

(3:06:56) ITS A LOT OF FUN. I HAVE A LOT OF NEIGHBORS, THE GIRLS I WORK WITH ARE THERE, IF MY HUSBANDS AT HOME PLAYING

A VIDEO GAME I CAN WALK DOWN THE TRAIN AND GO VISIT.
The travel bug has gotten to Lisa Chapman too. The Martinsville native is starting her 4th year on tour as a clown.

(3:30:42) AND NOW I FIND THAT WHEN WE ARE IN A CITY FOR A LONG TIME YOU KIND OF FEEL LIKE IT IS TIME TO GO I'VE GOT TO

GET OUT OF HERE. (3:30:51)
With 310 people living and working together 24 hours a day Stable Manager Pete Cinini says the circus feels less like a multi-million dollar extravaganza and more like a traveling family act.

(2:37:10) WHEN YOU ARE ON THE ROAD THIS IS A FAMILY WITHIN ITSELF. BIRTHDAYS..YEA MOM AND DAD AREN'T THERE BUT THE CIR

CUS IS A FAMILY. THEY ARE YOUR BACK SUPPORT (2:37:25)
Some people take that family feeling a step further, and start one of their own. When operations manager Mark Gaipo found himself falling in love with a Russian trapeeze artist he wasn't sure if he was just adapting to his surroundings or it was the real thing. The answer? Well he and his wife are expecting their first child in the next few months. As a matter of fact in the past 2 year tour eight children have been born into circus families. And while many may think living and working together would be just too much of a good thing, Mark says a little understanding goes a long way.

(about 2:56:55) SHE IS VERY UNDERSTANDING. I CAN BE REAL THICK HEADED, I CAN BE A THICK HEADED BALD IRISH GUY BUT SHE

IS VERY UNDERSTANDING. SHE GETS THE BEST OF ME. WE CAN GO TO OUR SEPERATE ROOMS IN THE TRAIN OR I CAN COME TO WORK A LITTLE EARLY- BUT IT ALWAYS WORKS OUT IN THE END. (2:57:11)))

Any doubts about Lisa's convictions were put aside in 1993 when she was accepted to Ringling Brother's Clown College. The eight week training program was quite a bit different from her days as a costume design major at Jame Madison University.

(3:29:33) IT WAS SHORTER, THERE WERE NO BIOLOGY LABS AT CLOWN COLLEGE (3:29:39)

What she did learn was things like how to walk on stilts, juggling, the history of clowning, and how to fall with out getting hurt.

(3:38:08) WE'RE NOT ONLY DOING OUR ACT FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE 4TH ROW, WE'RE DOING IT FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE 104TH. SO W

After 4 and a half years of tumbling, falling and spinning, Lisa says she still gets a good feeling every night when she walks onto the floor. Her smile is not an act.

(around 3:34:45) THE CLOWNING THAT I DO IS ME TIMES A MILLION ITS JUST ME TO THE ENTH DEGREE SO ITS STILL ME OUT THERE

WHEN I'M A CLOWN (3:34:55)
And nothing brings out the best in her more, than a child.

(3:33:21) KIDS ARE GREAT. THEY ARE THE MOST HONEST AUDIENCE THAT WE COME ACROSS. THEY , IN AN INSTANT YOU KNOW IF THE

Y LIKE YOU OR THEY DON'T IF THEY THINK SOMETHING YOU ARE DOING IS FUNNY OR NOT. A KID CAN MAKE YOUR DAY WHEN THEY COME UP AND GIVE YOU A HUG. IT CAN MAKE A LOT OF BAD THINGS GO AWAY (3:33:53)
She feels fortunate that since she works the East coast she gets to see her family in Martinsville about 4 times a year. In between.. its her fellow clowns that fill the void.
