A Danville man faces murder charges after a shooting yesterday.
Authorities say Laquan (LA-KWAN) Stone went to his ex-wife's home at the Town and Country Apartments around 1:30 in the morning.
That's where he allegedly shot Alvin Averett, Junior in the head.
Stone is in the Danville City Jail, held without bail.

Recovery personnel say if someone gets caught in this undertow, there's not much hope of survival.

The U-S Agriculture Department has issued a nationwide recall of more than 282 thousand pounds of ground beef, that may be contamined with E-coli bacteria.

The beef was shipped from an Illinois plant April 14th and went to at least 20 states including Virginia and West Virginia.
Officials say since the beef was fresh and produced two weeks ago, much of it may already have been consumed.

A new federal prison will be going up in the Commonwealth, and three Southwest Virginia counties are among the possible locales.

The father and brother of a ten-year-old Bedford COunty girl face charges of abusing her.
The girl's 17-year old brother is charged with forcible rape, forcible sodomy and sexual battery. Police say the charges stem from activities over the past four months.
The girl's father is charged with malicious wounding after allegedly beating her.

AND HEALTH EXPERTS SAY PATIENTS WITH ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE CAN DO A LOT FOR THEIR CONDITION BY SITTING-- IN ROCKING CHAIRS.
A TWO-YEAR STUDY, COMPLETED AT A NURSING HOME IN ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, FOUND THAT ELDERLY PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA WERE ABLE TO RELIEVE THEIR ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION.. BY ROCKING BACK AND FORTH FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME.
RESEARCHERS SAY THE DAILY ROCKING ALSO IMPROVED BALANCE AND EASED PAIN.
THE STUDY WAS FUNDED BY THE NEW YORK STATE HEALTH DEPARTMENT.

In Campbell County, Patrick Henry Girls Home residents are looking to the public for help after a devastating fire.

The blaze destroyed the Home's horse barn and killed eight show horses Tuesday night.. authorities haven't determined a cause.
Patrick Henry takes in troubled teens from across central Virginia, and officials say the riding program helped the girls learn responsiblity and organization.
The Home has a horse show scheduled for late May.. they hope to be back on their feet by then.

Botetourt County has plans to overhaul the sheriff's department radio system -- until then, deputies are getting trapped in dead spots.

Police in South Boston want your help finding the suspects who scammed an elderly woman out of eight-thousand dollars.

Police want to identify the woman caught on this bank surveillence video.
They say she and another woman approached two elderly women Friday-- claiming to have found thousands of dollars.
The con-artists told the senior citizens they would share the money if they put up 10-thousand dollars "in good faith."
The woman caught on this tape helped one of the seniors withdraw 8-thousand dollars from her bank account.
