His stolen getaway car ran up on a curb, so he went across the street and tried to carjack a motorist.
That motorist turned out to be Roanoke detective Ron Jones.

A trial date is set in Smyth County for a former teacher accused of having sex with one of his students.

34-year old Michael Dwayne Blevins will go on trial in late July.
Prosecutors say the teenage girl was a former student of Blevins in Rural Retreat although the alleged crimes occurred in Smyth County.
Blevins is charged with 30-counts of oral sodomy and 15-counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The alleged incidents happened between June and August of '97.
Today a judge asked prosecutors to be more specific about the dates and nature of what happened.

Roanoke County officers have looked for contraband in Cave Spring High School CLASSROOMS before -- but today, they checked cars in the parking lot.
Lieutenant Steve Turner says by looking in windows, officers found three cars that appeared to contain marijuana.
They also found one possible crack pipe, and several cars that contained tobacco products, which are not allowed on school grounds.

Since 1980, the number of drug resistant salmonella cases have increased from less than one percent to 34 percent.
The number of antibiotics that are unable to fight the problem has increased to five.

Doctors say their major concern is the millions of pounds of antibiotics used on livestock every year to promote growth and treat disease.
