Roanoke police are on the lookout for two suspects who attempted to rob a store last night and shot the clerk.

According to police, 38-year-old Annie T. Williams was closing the store on North Rugby Road in Northwest Roanoke around 10:30 when the 2 suspects, wearing masks, demanded money.
Williams was shot in the chest, but suffered only a superficial wound.
She was treated and released from Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Blacksburg police say a preliminary investigation into an early-morning apartment fire shows that the blaze was an accident.

The building sustained 75-thousand dollars worth of property damage.

Franklin County officials say an electrical problem sparked the blaze that forced the evacuation of a Smith Mountain Lake shopping center.
Dozens were evacuated from the Bridge Water plaza after a fire broke out at about three-thirty yesterday afternoon.
Firefighters from Bedford County and Franklin County responded to blaze.
The fire was contained to the roof and attic of one part of the building.

A weekend car accident claimed the life of a man in Wythe County.
The wreck occurred along the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 just after midnight Sunday morning.
State Police say 23 year old Christopher Lee Hendricks of Dublin lost control of his car and smashed into a tree.
He died at the scene.
