Homeowners in Sun Valley and Palm Valley say they'd love to move out of the flood-prone neighborhood.
The county's applied for a 750-thousand dollar federal grant, similar to the one the city of Roanoke got to buy up houses in the Garden City area.
23 houses in the county would be eligible for the buyout, but this grant would be enough to purchase only eight.

Some railroad unions have had their ability to strike restricted, in the event that federal regulators approve the proposed Conrail merger.
A federal judge in Roanoke imposed that restriction yesterday.
The U-S Surface Transportation Board is expected to rule June 8th on the plan by Norfolk Southern and C-S-X to buy and carve up Conrail.
Judge James Turk ruled that rail unions cannot strike for a year.
The ruling is intended to stop the unions from trying to block the Conrail takeover if they don't like some of the terms imposed by federal
regulators.

The roads loop past farms, through villages -- where business owners hope tourists will stop and shop.
And for those who want to build on these rolling hills, there are no zoning laws.
But the locals might welcome a country store more than a factory.
