The death toll is now six from a Roanoke Apartment fire-
Crews tonight pulled a fifth body from the rubble-
And a victim who was brought to UVA Medical center died this evening.

The blaze broke out in the early morning hours at an apartment building on the corner of 5th and Church Avenue.

But the fire was not the beginning of the morning events.
Around 1:20 a-m, a fight turned into a shooting on Gilmer Avenue in Northwest Roanoke.
Before dying, 26-year old Kevin Lee Jones told police Willie Caldwell shot him.

At 4:27-am, a phone call alerted dispatchers to the fire at 502 Church Avenue.
Witnesses tell News 7 Willie Caldwell and his girlfriend lived in the building.

They say she stopped to pick a flower and slipped -- falling 300 feet into a creek.

But this is the first in the last ten years -- rescue workers say the fatalities dropped off after the Nature Conservancy posted trespassing signs.
