Four bodies have been pulled from a burned out apartment building in downtown Roanoke.
The suspicious fire broke out around 4:30 this morning.

Two buildings were destroyed in the fire. One victim was flown to U-V-A Medical Center in critical condition, suffering burns over his entire body. Firefighters trying to battle the blaze were pushed back by fears the buildings would collapse.

The apartment buildings are diagonally across the street from the Y-M-C-A.

At 1:20 a-m after a fight, a shooting occurs in the 300 block of Gilmer Avenue in Northwest Roanoke. 26-year old Kevin Lee Jones tells police that Willie Caldwell shot him. Jones later dies.

It started a few hours after a shooting here on Gilmer Avenue, where her boyfriend, Willie Caldwell allegedly killed Kevin Lee Jones.

Cruz is a native of Columbia.
According to a petition filed in Roanoke today, Cruz said "he could not do ten years in prison."

The U-S attorney's office says it will move to have his 100-thousand dollar bond forfeited. It's an UN-secured bond, and it's unclear whether Cruz has any assets left in this country that the feds could seize.

Alley is accused of killing her eight-month old daughter on Mother's Day.

If Alley does not soon hire a private attorney, she will be appointed a public defender.

Jury selection got underway today in the first capital murder trial in modern history in Appomattox County.

19- year- old Brandon Wayne Hedrick pleaded "not guilty" today to abducting, raping and killing Lisa Yvonne Crider one year ago.
Crider's body was found in the James River near Bent Creek.. she died of a shotgun blast to the head.
Hedrick told investigators he was only trying to scare Crider when he fired the gun.
Hedrick's alleged acomplice, Trevor Anthony Jones, is expected to testify against him.
Prosecutor Tommy Lawson is seeking the death penalty.

Autopsy results show a 19-year-old Roanoke County woman suffered fatal head injuries as she tumbled down a waterfall yesterday.

19-year-old Lindsey Bayne was hiking in the Twin Falls area of Floyd County.
Friends say she leaned down to pick a flower, slipped on rocks, and fell 250 to 300 feet down the waterfall -- landing in Bottom Creek Gorge.
Rescue workers say it's not only the slick, mossy rocks that make this area dangerous -- but also snakes.
This is the first death at Twin Falls in ten years.
Rescue workers say that's partly due to the Nature Conservancy's "No Trespassing" signs.
