An early evening hike ended tragically for a Roanoke County woman yesterday.

The accident happened at Twin Falls in Floyd County.
According to police Lindsey Bayne of Buckingham Circle was hiking with friends.
They said Bayne bent down to pick up a flower, slipped on some rocks and fell 250 to 300 feet to her death down a waterfall.
Bayne landed in Bottom Creek.
It took five rescuers about four hours to retrieve the body.
None of her friends were hurt.

The Henry County woman accused in the stabbing death of her infant daughter is scheduled for a court hearing today.

The proceedings will ensure that Sharon Alley has an attorney.
Alley was already facing charges of abusing 8-month-old Brooke Alley when the child was killed on Mother's Day.
Last fall, Alley lost custody of her daughter after the baby's skull was cracked when she allegedly was thrown across a room.
In March, a judge allowed Alley to get the child back after Alley's husband said the couple planned to reconcile.

Investigators have started a drug crackdown in Halifax COunty.
Officers from the Halifax County Sheriff's Department and South Boston police made 3 arrests in Clover in what they say is a known drug dealing area.
19-year-old Corey Crawley was charged with distribution of imitation crack cocaine and possession of marijuana.
20-year-old Anthony Brooks and Kirkland Simon Junior were also arrested with possession of Marijuana.

Graduating students of the first chartered women's college in the history of Virginia shared something more than a sense of accomplishment at yesterday's commencement ceremonies.

The class of 1998 at Hollins College holds the distinction of being the 156th and final graduating class from the liberal arts college. Hollins will change its status in July to a university. Officials say the only changes will be a larger student population.

The school usually has an enrollment of about 11-hundred. About 270-students received degrees yesterday. Rasmussen says the school will continue it tradition of commitment to academic excellence.

A Roanoke County woman died yesterday after plunging down a waterfall in Floyd County.
Witnesses say Linsey Bayne of Buckingham Circle was hiking at Twin Falls around 5:30 when she slipped and fell about three hundred feet.
No one else was injured.
