Earlier this morning, a man who lived in the 500 block of Church Avenue was charged with murder.
Police say 37 year old Willie Caldwell was involved in two fights with 26 year old Kevin Lee Jones.
The second fight happened on Gilmer Avenue.
At that time Jones was shot in the stomach.
He told police Caldwell shot him.
Jones later died at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Caldwell is being held without bond.[Jumper]

Shortly before 11 this morning, a woman jumped off the Wasena Bridge into the Roanoke River.
But before rescue workers could attempt to save her, the woman walked out of the river herself.
Authorities haven't yet identified the woman, who was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for observation.

An accidental fall in Floyd County yesterday killed a Roanoke woman who was hiking.

The accident occurred at Twin Falls in Floyd County.
According to police Lindsey Bayne of Buckingham Circle was hiking with friends.
They said Bayne bent down to pick up a flower, slipped on some rocks and fell 250 to 300 feet to her death down a waterfall.
Bayne landed in Bottom Creek.
It took five rescuers about four hours to retrieve the body.
None of her friends were hurt.

Sharon Alley had a counsel hearing this morning.
Her acting lawyer says she has not yet hired him to take on her case.
Alley is accused of killing her eight-month old daughter on Mother's Day.

Authorities say Alley was living with her parents in this Figsboro trailer when she stabbed the little girl in the heart.
If Alley does not soon hire a private attorney, she will be appointed a public defender.
A new counsel hearing has been set for Friday.

19- year- old Brandon Wayne Hedrick pleaded "not" guilty this morning to a nine- count indictment for the death of Lisa Yvonne Crider one year ago.
Authorities say Hedrick and an accomplice abducted, raped, robbed and murdered Crider last May.. then dumped her body in the James River near Bent Creek.
Hedrick has claimed the shooting was accidental.
Prosecutor Tommy Lawons says he WILL seek the death penalty for Hedrick if he's convicted.

Researchers say herceptin stopped the spread of cancer and slowed down tumor growth.. when used in combination with other therapies to treat advanced stages of breast cancer.
What's so unique about herceptin... is that it uses naturally occuring infection fighters to ward off cancer-causing proteins.

The vigil was held at the Unity of the Roanoke Valley church in the star city.
It was one of several vigils going on around the world to remember people living with AIDS.
