It may some time before the Galaxy-Four communications satellite is back on line.
That could mean millions of pagers nationwide will remain silent.
(------------)
[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=03-Roanoke;]

The problem has not been so bad for Roanoke-area businesses. Pagers used by local hospitals run on local ground-based systems, so they had few problems.
Radio and television stations, which depend on the satellite for news feeds and weather statistics, are feeling the brunt of the problem. The owners of Galaxy Four estimate it will take five days to replace the crippled satellite.

Forget about renting a house on the Franklin County side of Smith Mountain Lake for Memorial Day Weekend.

[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=03-Franklin Co.;]

It is now illegal to rent in a residential area for less than a month.
That's because neighbors say crowds of people often pack into a house meant for four -- then throw loud parties and destroy property.
So short-term rentals are now confined to condominiums.
In contrast -- the Bedford and Pittsylvania County sides of the lake have NO restrictions on short-term rentals.
