A FRIEND SAYS KINKEL MAY HAVE FELT HE LET THEM DOWN.. BECAUSE JUST ONE DAY BEFORE THE KILLINGS, HE HAD BEEN ARRESTED FOR BRINGING A GUN TO SCHOOL.

Closing arguments get underway this morning in the sentencing of convicted killer Brandon Wayne Hedrick.

An Appomattox County jury already has convicted the 19 year old Hedrick of capital murder for the shooting death of Lisa Yvonne Crider last May.
Defense attorneys yesterday tried to portary Hedrick as an immature young man of below average intelligence whose problems with alcohol and drug abuse contributed to the killing.

The drug dealer-turned D-E-A Informant who skipped town before sentencing may not be in COlumbia after all.

Javier Cruz told his Miami probation officer last week that he had fled to Colombia to avoid a prison term.
Court papers say the probation officer CONFIRMED Cruz was in Colombia.
But Greg Glassen of U-S Pretrial Services says that's not true -- that Cruz could have been calling from somewhere else. It may not even have been Cruz on the phone.

A small fire broke out at Christiansburg High School last night..
Police say a kiln was accidently left on, sparking the blaze.
Crews were able to douse the flames before they spread to the rest of the school.

New research shows that a common ingredient in toiletries and cosmetics could be causing cancer in lab animals.

A fifteen year old former student reportedly opened fire in the school cafeteria yesterday killing one student and injuring 23.

Garry and Linda Floyd have developed a way to capture a child's fingerprint on a clothing label.
That print is then matched with information in a large database to identify the child.
They call it the Magic Fingerprint I-D System.

They came up with the idea seven years ago, then teamed up with a company in North Carolina.
That company came up with a chemically-treated towelette and a chemically-coated label that combine to reveal a fingerprint.
The label is then ironed on to clothing and is washable.
It's now only available in samples.
The Floyds are hoping to soon get a mass distributor for the product so it can be sold in stores.

The Browns lost their 17-year old son, Matthew, in a single-car accident last July.

The Sheriff concedes the connection with the First Lady is mainly political. He and the Governor are both Republicans.

Closing arguments today in the sentencing of convicted killer Brandon Wayne Hedrick.
The nineteen-year old Hedrick was convicted of capital murder a year ago for the shooting death of Lisa Yvonne Crider.
Defense attorneys have tried to portray Hedrick as being of below average intelligence and of abusing drugs and alcohol.
