Closing arguments get underway this morning in the sentencing of convicted killer Brandon Wayne Hedrick.

An Appomattox County jury already has convicted the 19 year old Hedrick of capital murder for the shooting death of Lisa Yvonne Crider last May.
Defense attorneys yesterday tried to portary Hedrick as an immature young man of below average intelligence whose problems with alcohol and drug abuse contributed to the killing.

Javier Cruz told his Miami probation officer last week that he had fled to Colombia to avoid a prison term.
Court papers say the probation officer CONFIRMED Cruz was in Colombia.
But Greg Glassen of U-S Pretrial Services says that's not true -- that Cruz could have been calling from somewhere else. It may not even have been Cruz on the phone.

That print is then matched with information in a large database to identify the child.
They call it the Magic Fingerprint I-D System.

They came up with the idea seven years ago, then teamed up with a company in North Carolina.
That company came up with a chemically-treated towelette and a chemically-coated label that combine to reveal a fingerprint.
The label is then ironed on to clothing and is washable.
It's now only available in samples.
