A signing party brought hundreds of supporters to the state capitol over the weekend.
Governor Gilmore staged the party for his bill that will phase out Virginia's car tax.
Virginians will have to wait five years for the tax on the first 20-thousand dollars of assessed value of cars and trucks to be fully phased out.
But the first step of the cut takes effect next month, removing the first 12-and-a-half percent of the tax and completely eliminating it for cars valued at a thousand dollars or less.
