Two people were aboard the plane, a student pilot and an instructor.
Both are hospitalized this morning.
A man cutting hay in a nearby hill witnessed the crash.

State police say the student pilot indicated he was experiencing engine trouble.
The instructor, Barry Hyde, is listed in critical condition at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
The student pilot is Robert Edward Anderson and he's listed in stable condition.

The search has ended for a Henry County man reported missing Sunday.
Searchers found the body of 22-year old Mark Anthony Turner in a large pond in Spencer.
Dive teams searched for Turner much of the day yesterday.
The Henry County Sheriff's Office says his death was an accident.
Turner was fishing with friends when they left to get bait and could not find him when they returned.

Drinking and driving has landed one mother in a Botetourt County jail.

Four children were in the back of Patricia Long's car when she drove drunk and crashed.
Her blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.
A judge revoked Long's license and gave her a 30 day SUSPENDED jail sentence.
But she WILL serve three months of a three year jail sentence for endangering children.

The student pilot, Robert Anderson, is listed in stable condition at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Elaine Whitfield Sharp made headlines last week when she was pulled over for drunk driving.
But it's not the charges alone that led to her dismissal.
Whitfield Sharp reportedly told the state trooper who stopped her that she now believes Woodward is guilty of killing the infant left in her care.
Whitfield Sharp denies making the remarks.
Woodward was convicted of second degree murder but a judge reduced the conviction to manslaughter.
Both sides are appealing.

What police say was a drug deal gone bad has now turned into a murder.
41-year old David W. Robertson was shot last Tuesday in Lynchburg.
He died Sunday at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Police have charged 18-year old Dale Lee Pughsley (PUGS-lee) with murder and two counts of attempted robbery.

Several others are being sought for questioning.[E-Drug-Court]

It was a graduation exercise, but not of the garden variety kind.
Roanoke's drug court, the first of its kind in the state, has been in business since 1995.
Convicted nonviolent drug offenders who complete the program get a second chance at life.

The plea agreement between Louis Ceparano and Grayson County prosecutors may have been accepted by the victim's family, but not the state branch of the N-double-A-C-P.

According to the terms of his Alford plea, the 43-year old admitted there was sufficient evidence to convict him, but did not plead guilty to burning and decapitating Garnett Johnson.
