Could funding for Virginia's two historically black public colleges be in jeapordy?
That question comes after the man expected to be tapped tomorrow as the state's new higher education chief says Virginia should re-examine the schools' support.
William Allen told "The Washington Post" that although schools such as Virginia State University near Petersburg and Norfolk State University may have been necessary when blacks were barred from other colleges, their value today is less certain.

A tractor trailer carrying about two thousand gallons overturned on Camp Carysbrook Road around nine thirty.
The driver told authorities he was trying to avoid another car when he ran off the side of the road.
He was later charged with failure to maintain control of his vehicle.

Crews were called in to clean the spill out of concern the milk would spoil and possibly harm the fish.

On to golf. Lynchburg's Donna Andrews flirted with the LPGA all time record low score yesterday in the first round of the Oldmobile Classic.
