The identities of 2 people involved in a fatal jet skiing accident on Smith Mountain Lake yesterday have not been released yet.

The accident happened at Bernard's Landing shortly after 3 p-m.
An area security guard says two jet skiers collided while riding along the lake.
Rescue crews at the scene confirmed that one of the skiers died.
The other was taken to Bedford County Hospital.
That skier's condition is not known.

Police say they do have a suspect in the weekend shooting death of a Martinsville man.
26-year-old Kenneth Lee Bruce was shot in the head while a group of people were gathered on Harden Road Saturday morning.
Police say Bruce was also hit by a car leaving the scene.
Another man was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The trailer carrying the horses tore loose from the truck yesterday on Route 24 near Stewartsville.
Rescue crews had to cut the trailer to free the animals.
Both horses suffered cuts and were taken to the Virginia Tech Animal Hospital, one with a punctured lung.

An afternoon of jet skiing ended in a collision yesterday -- killing one skier and injuring another on Smith Mountain Lake.

One woman faces reckless driving charges after her passenger was killed in a car wreck in Alleghany COunty last night.
State police say Francis Barnett lost control of her car on Interstate 64 before running into the median and overturning.
Her passenger, whose identity has not been released, died at the scene.
And in a separate accident in Henry County, state police say alcohol was likely involved in a single-car wreck that killed a driver.
Authorities say the female victim was ejected from the vehicle when she ran off of Route 87, struck a guardrail, and flipped over.
She was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Camp Lejeune, North Carolina is the site today for another round of hearings into the fatal cable car accident last February in Italy.

The hearing will focus on the actions of the pilot and navigator of a Marine jet that sliced a ski gondola's cable killing 20 people.
Both are charged with 20 counts of involuntary manslaughter and 20 counts of negligent homicide.
A preliminary investigation by the Marines blamed the crew for the accident, saying the jet was flying too low and too fast.

A controversial new jail won't be coming to Covington as soon as planned.

That after 150 Delaware prisoners were transferred to the Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt Saturday.
The move was done to ease overcrowding in Delaware's prisons.
Virginia has plenty of space to house prisoners thanks, in part, to prisons built during George Allen's administration.

The foundation's first project will be to raise money to buy two "speed trailers" for the police department.
The trailers monitor a motorist's actual speed and compare it to the posted speed limit.
They'll be placed in areas where citizens have complained about unsafe drivers.

26-year-old Kenneth Lee Bruce died after he was shot in the head and then hit by a car leaving the scene.
Another man was hospitalized for a gunshot wound to the leg.

A jet skiing accident reportedly killed one person and seriously injured another yesterday afternoon on Smith Mountain Lake.
A security guard says two jet skiers collided at Bernard's Landing.
Rescue workers confirmed that one person died, but the identities of both victims are still unknown.

Fire forces a Danville couple from their home for the second time since November, and they say their landlord is shirking his responsibility.
Stephanie and Will Harris say they could not get in touch with their landlord after either fire. The couple say they want the landlord to (quote) "do their job and be present for situations like this".
