He'll be charged as an adult with aggravated assault and using a firearm in a felony.

For the second time in less than a month, gunshots have rung out in a public school. Students at Armstrong High School were taking final exams when shots rang out. 74 year old volunteer Eloise Wilson and 45 year old history teacher Gregory Carter were caught in the crossfire.

Carter, coach of the basketball team, may have been trying to break up a hallway argument when he was shot in the abdomen with a bullet meant for a student.

Fire officials say it appears the blaze started in a large paper compactor.

Authorities say alcohol was definitely a factor in the drowning death of a man at Smith Mountain Lake Sunday.
The 40-year old Franklin County man was reportedly drinking with friends when he fell from a dock into the lake at Shoreline Marina.
Authorities say he was drunk at the time of his drowning, and foul play is NOT suspected.

40-year Jon W. Cooper from Lynchburg was killed in a jet-ski crash.
Cooper's jet ski collided with another jet ski, ridden by 41-year old Moneta resident Gloria Purdue.
Purdue escaped without injuries.
Authorities say there are usually about 50-accidents at Smith Mountain Lake every year.
More than half of those involve individual watercraft such as jet skis.
Police are still investigating the crash.
But no charges are pending.

Authorities in Pittsylvania County hope a cash reward will help them track down the suspect who poisoned nearly a dozen dogs.

Last month, a veterinarian confirmed they were poisoned when someone put antifreeze in their food.

The sister of death row inmate Dennis Wayne Eaton's victim will NOT be allowed to act as his spiritual advisor.
Maria Hines is the sister of Trooper Terry Hines, one of four people killed by Eaton in 1989.
Department of Corrections officials fear that Hines -- a former nun and death penalty opponent -- would try to disrupt the execution of the condemned killer.
Eaton is scheduled to die later this week.

A Pennsylvania firefighter is run over responding to a mutli vehicle crash and the incident is captured on videotape.

The firefighter was dragged for nearly 20 feet and from the video its hard to believe the firefighter's injuries were NOT life threatening. Officials say police had been chasing a van near the car accident scene.
The van driver apparently thought the accident was some type of police road block and that's why he went crashing through.
The suspect faces multiple charges.

A cash reward has been offered in hopes of tracking down who killed nine dogs on a Pittsylvania County farm.

There used to be 11 bird-dogs living in these kennels on Ben Davenport's farm in Markham.
Last month, a veterinarian confirmed they were poisoned when someone put antifreeze in their food.
Nine died-- two survived.
Davenport first noticed a problem when the dogs acted a bit sluggish.

The two surviving dogs are now being boarded in North Carolina.
The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office is offering a 25-hundred dollar reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case.

The site marks the area where Confederate troops defended the city from a Federal raiding party in 18-64.

The F-C-C is setting out to change that -- saying cable boxes will be widely available for sale starting in the year 2000.
And the new cable box will be universal -- for use in any state, on digital or analog television.

The 14-year old student who opened fire in a Richmond High School yesterday will be arraigned in court today.
Prosecutors will charge him as an adult with multiple counts of aggravated assault and using a firearm in a felony.


A teacher and a volunteer aide were wounded in the crossfire.

It took hours for firefighters to extinguish a blaze at the Cycle Systems recycling plant in Roanoke.
Officials say the fire started early yesterday evening in a large paper compactor.
Heavy smoke hampered firefighter's efforts.
